Add your first project

A project is an idea, a product, a service or a change you are driving. It is where Max helps most. Every project lives in a portfolio and is scored against that portfolio’s maturity model, so create a portfolio first.

The fastest start is to give Max the materials you already have. Max reads them, drafts the project details and makes a first assessment of the project’s maturity.

Create the project

  1. Open the portfolio from the sidebar, choose Projects and click New project. From the setup checklist, Add your first project takes you to the same place.

  2. The first step shows the journey a project takes through the portfolio’s funnel. Click Continue.

  3. Choose how to start:

    • Start with existing materials. Drag in reports, pitch decks, research or plans (PDF, PPTX or XLSX, up to 20 MB each), or click Link files to link documents from a connected workspace. Then click Continue.
    • Start from scratch. Click Create a new project.

  4. Fill in the details. With materials, Max has drafted them for you; check every field.

    Name Required.
    Tagline Required. One sentence, at most 100 characters.
    Description Required. The purpose of the project. Max reads this.
    Start date Optional.
    Status Required. Start as In Concepting for an idea being explored, or Active for work under way.
    Priority Optional. High, medium or low.
    Organization unit Required. The department, team or business unit the project belongs to.
    Project lead The person accountable. Leads and team members see the project in My work.
    Themes Optional labels for filtering across the portfolio.

  5. Click Create project, or Save and start evaluation when you started from materials.

The first assessment

When you started from materials, Max opens the evaluation right away. It reads the files against every objective of the maturity model, then shows Evaluation results. Click Review results: each finding is a proposed evidence note on one objective, with a proposed status and a citation to the page or slide it came from. Accept, edit or reject them. Accepted findings become the project’s first evidence and its first maturity score.

Without materials, the project starts with an empty Planning board. Open the Planning tab and record what the team already knows, or add files under Files and click Reassess evidence whenever you want Max to catch up.
